Liberty would not be the company it is today without the entrepreneurial ideas of George Gordon Muttart. George Gordon Muttart founded National Elevator in 1960, which provided comprehensive elevator service to customers along the North East Coast. In 1987, Liberty Elevator Corporation emerged, with Douglas K. Muttart, after the corporation completed the historic elevator installation in The Statue of Liberty.

Twenty Five years after Doug Sr. completed the historic elevator installation during the Statue's centennial celebrations, Liberty Elevator Corporation was awarded the prestigious honor of installing Lady Liberty's three new elevators during the National Park Service's 2011's "Life and Safety Upgrades." Specializing in preventative maintenance programs, modernization, cab refurbishments and new installations, Liberty remains one of the largest independently owned and operated elevator companies in the Northeast. Since 1960, Liberty Elevator Corporation has provided vertical transportation to a variety of Fortune 500 customers. Today, the corporation remains family owned and operated with its headquarters in Paterson, New Jersey.

In 2018, Liberty Elevator Corporation was recognized as the Best Family-Owned Business in the elevator industry by Elevator World publications, as voted by customers and peers in the Industry. Douglas J. Muttart, President, reflected on his family's long-standing reputation in the industry: "Liberty has sustained and grown despite uncertain economic times. A New Era Begins in South Florida

The spring of 2021 begins the next chapter for Liberty Elevator Corporation. After 60 years of successful growth in the New York Metro area, Liberty Elevator Corporation has expanded its elevator service reach to include South Florida. At the request of our New York area clients who also have Florida properties, Liberty Elevator Corporation has opened a branch office in Fort Lauderdale to deliver a trusted level of service that previously had not existed in Southern Florida. 

Liberty is now providing Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Naples and the surrounding South Florida area with certified union elevator mechanics to perform maintenance, modernizations & new elevator construction.
